A wilderness journey may await each one of us, and age has little to do with when we begin. What is important is that we make the trip. Taking that first step is often a journey in itself for all that follows defines that moment.
Sooner is not always better.
Maybe going into the wild is the way home— I do not know—I do know that never exploring life–maintaining only a single perspective–is to miss more and see less.
“The creative is where no one else has ever been. You have to leave the city of your comfort and go into the wilderness of your intuition” (Alan Alda).
Going wild is to wander the land of infinite possibilities with a kaleidoscope of life lenses. In the wilderness we learn that we will always be able to bear what we believe we cannot.
We will not find rawness in comfort. It is not painless this walk into the wild but it is a rich one, truly priceless.
It takes us out of our comfort zone. We discover our curiosity. We are eager to learn what is around the bend and over the mountain. Whatever rocks we climb, whatever snow we stomp may bring us to the edge of our own existence. Curiosity overrides our fear.
It is for us to lean into the experience, to look through pain to its other side. It is where we discover of what we are made.
We may find comfort in the wild—want to make it our home— but unless we are at journey’s end, we will find our feet itching to take to the trail to the wilderness of our intuition.
Aim for Even posts offer equanimity in daily doses. No day or dose is ever the same, even if the aim is. You may read about the origins of Aim for Even here or on this site’s About page.
That Alan Alda quote is such a pleasant surprise! We don’t need to set a goal to achieve the highest peak …. Just reach beyond our comfort zone and stay open to the learning that unfolds. 💛

It is a delight, isn’t it? Staying open to what is, going into the wilderness of our intuition.
