Impending Impermanence: Hermine

We categorize storms—cyclone, hurricane, tropical, tornado— we track their paths. But nature is ever true to herself, arriving in her own time and with her own winds of change.

Hermine will be no different, whether as a tropical storm or as a hurricane. In the hours preceding Hermine’s arrival, the idea of her impermanence is immense.

Her presence occupies the minds of millions: how to ready for the winds of change to minimize their lasting effect. The focus is intense.

When the winds of change reach hurricane force,

our inner refuge of mindfulness, concentration, and discernment

is the only thing that will keep us from getting blown away.

As well, will living in an outer refuge built with the winds of change in mind. Nature’s forces are great teachers no matter the refuge.

I am mindful that the moments preceding Hermine’s arrival may be more dramatic than her landfall–or not. Unpredictable is the reality of impermanence.

I remind myself not to touch the wind.
