In a recent Facebook post Marianne Williamson wrote, “The light is here because it is always here, but we must be its lamps.”
I think so.
It is not easy being a lamp, ever adjusting from burning bright to softly lit. We learn to trust that no one moment lasts forever and adapt accordingly.
We are all visitors to this time, this place.
We are just passing through.
Our purpose here is to observe, to learn,
to grow, to love, and then we return home.

Before we know it, we will no longer be a lamp. We might remember the experience. I suspect we will. Perhaps, at home once more, we will reminisce. We will know then what we cannot know now.
Aim for Even posts offer equanimity in daily doses. No day or dose is ever the same, even if the aim is. You may read about the origins of Aim for Even here or on this site’s About page.
I love all of your posts here, but this one especially struck me. The idea of being a lamp for light already there is gorgeous.

I, too, was quite struck with that image of being a lamp. For me, it defines purpose. Thanks, August!
